Our Capabilities
ECI, Feasibility and Design
The success of any bridge project is determined long before work begins. Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) brings the technical insight, buildability expertise and early risk identification needed to shape safer, more cost-effective outcomes from the outset.
At Spencer Bridge Engineering, we engage with our clients at the earliest possible stage, helping shape schemes before key decisions are made. By identifying constraints, risks and opportunities early, we improve buildability, enhance cost and programme certainty and help avoid complications later in the project lifecycle. Our ECI approach typically includes concept development, feasibility studies, structural assessments and the early development and appraisal of design options. Through our use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), we are able to enhance coordination and provide deeper insight into feasibility, programme, sequencing and whole-life cost considerations.
A key aspect of our capability is our integrated in-house engineering expertise across civil, structural, mechanical and access disciplines. This enables us to assess feasibility and constructability early, identify risks before they escalate and develop practical, efficient and fully deliverable solutions tailored to complex bridge infrastructure, including constrained or live operational sites.
Through collaborative optioneering, technical analysis and buildability reviews, we support informed decision-making at every stage. Our teams focus on managing risk, optimising sequencing and ensuring that access, temporary works and operational requirements are fully embedded within the design process, helping clients avoid unnecessary disruption and future maintenance complications.
By embedding ECI, feasibility and detailed design expertise into our project delivery model, we provide clients with a clear and transparent understanding of cost, programme and risk from the outset. Following completion of the ECI phase, projects can proceed through a traditional tender route or transition smoothly into delivery aligned with agreed scope, budget and long-term asset objectives.
